COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS

Sorting Data

Open the Swim Results Database (opens in a new window so you can keep the instructions open).
Find the number of race results (1) - only 200 are shown at once. Use the page indicators (2) to go through the different result pages.
Click on a column header (3) in order to sort by that data. Click e.g. on TIME in order to sort by finishing time (shortest to longest). If you want to reverse the sorting order, click again on the same column title!
The line (4) shows by which column the data actually is sorted!
You can do multiple sorts by clicking on several column titles consecutively.
In order to reset the search, click on Clear (5)

In different filter fields, the filter box entry terms are different:

Field mode                Field                        How to use

LIMITATIONS AND COMMENTS

In the years 2005 and 2015 the race has been cancelled, so you will not find any data for those years!

Please be aware not all data have been captured in all years! In some years e.g. AGE data was not captured.... so you will find swimmers with Age = 0, sorry about that.
Country/Origin data is not available through all the years either.
Whenever an AGE GROUP was available but no AGE, we use a dummy age (e.g. AGE GROUP F19-24 -> dummy AGE = 22 Years)

Sometimes first/surname was not captured consistently in different years (Jim / James) or the same swimmer was using a nickname in one race and the right name in another. We tried to fix that where it was obvious, but cannot guarantee everything is fixed now.

If you can help to complete the data or find any error, please contact me.

HISTORIC ACTUAL PERFORMANCE  RESULTS

Current top management of the WRWS has mandated the policy of reporting exactly what was done awards-wise through out the history of the swim.

Reviewing with those Swim officials with credible data-based memories produces the fact that the Elite System of removing
the first three male and first three female finishers from their respective age groups began in 1993.

A variety of ad hoc methods were used to group results from 1970 to 1992. None of these systems are now in use. Inflicting
the Elite System on these results would be a fabrication since
Elite never happened and current management wants what was “History”.

What is needed is a simple, truthful system for future readers that can be universally understandable over the decades.

The only simple universal system that years from now will out live various changes to suit awards systems is to use the only two parameters that have and will always be present: Time and Age.

In addition, this will eases up difficult computer Data Base technical challenges that lead to confusion and errors down the years to come.

Solution: Add a Comments column to the current Historic Actual Year-By-Year Performance Results citing trophy given.

Click in the search box to select a value out of available data. "*" selects ALL

You can enter a numerical value AND an operator. So you can find e.g. a swimmer age 70 or more, selecting ">" "70" in the AGE search box!

Enter the text which you want find into the search box. (USE UPPER CASE LETTERS ONLY) The routine will find any field containing that text: "ARC" will find MARC, MARCY, MARCUS...
"J*M" finds any field containing a "J" and then somewhere an "M", like JIM, JAMES, BENJAMIN.
Filtering Data

Open the Swim Results Database (openes in a new window so you can keep the instructions open).
Click on (6) and a new line for query will open. It can be closed again by selecting Hide (7).
Enter the items you will search for, in the search boxes (8). I this case we are looking for swimmers with first name JIM, being less than 44 years old. Type ENTER or click Query (9). The number of resulting records is shown in (10). The line Current Query: (11) shows the active queries. Selecting Clear (12) undoes the actual queries and allows to start over.
Independent of the actual query, the results can still be sorted by clicking on a column header (3) as described before
